I’ve been a huge fan of Thunderbirds from an early age. The designs, action, practical effects all caught my attention, but it was always the vehicles that grab your attention.

There’s no beating the classics, so I decided to 3D model a replica of the iconic and famous Thunderbird 1. To ensure I could capture all the details seen within the series I decided that I would create a model that was ‘Studio Scale,’ meaning this model is the exact same size as the hero prop used during the filming of the actual show. In total Thunderbird 1 will measures in at just over 500mm.

With the 3D model completed the STL files were sliced into sections for printing. Once printed and reinforced with a central threaded rod I have commenced the sanding, filling and priming process. Once these stages have been completed to my satisfaction, I will be able to commence with top coats, stencils and weathering.

In addition, to remain faithful to the series I also plan to fully 3D model and detail the cockpit to allow for a cut away panel on the side.
